The cartoon that has created all the conflict, and many rallies. I am wondering why it cause so much anger from the black community. All I see is a monkey, representing our government and all its crazy ideas, dead on the pavement (and two cops who look exactly alike), that's what I see. What the black community sees is idiocy. Why are they so offended by this cartoon, I am not really sure. Even if it was making fun of Barack Obama, it doesn't mean that its making fun of all black people, just Barack the magic negro. Obviously they don't care, and think that once Barack gained power then all of them have power, leading to this where if you make fun of Obama you make fun of all the black people. Then there is the attention loving Al Sharpton. He cant go a few weeks without speaking for the black community; He spoke for 6 months about drugged up guy who was shot 50 times by the police, and how great he was. The police, of course, lost their badges due to Sharpton. What ever the case may be Al (coholic)Sharpton, must find himself in the news every few months, so as not to lose his publicity. This time he is speaking out against the writer of this cartoon, sure to have him hanged for it.

Like I said before, I don't see why the black people are offended, even Obama himself isn't offended. What do you think.

i definitely have been spending to much time reading blogs and writing my blog and not enough time listening to the news. i actually do understand why black people might get offended by a cartoon depicting barack obama as a monkey. alot of people think of black people as being monkey-like, so this might offend them. if however like you say, obama himself is not offended by this, i dont see why the news is having such a heyday.

It sounds like you are not a student of history. Over the centuries, those whites who have tryed to justify slavery, lynching, segregation, etc. have tried to dehumanize blacks and even considered them as a different species. They often were portrayed as monkeys as part of that effort. That is why this is so deeply troubling to many blacks. As jews, who also have been subject to similar efforts at dehumanization and mean charicatures, we should be sympathetic and not scornful. The fact that a few African Americans like Mr. Sharpton might be antisemitic or just idiots doesn't
change the fact that this was highly offensive. BTW,this also was a stupid cartoon by a third-rate cartoonist.

Do you know why the cartoon shows a monkey being shot? if not then you are really out of it.

My favorite subject in school was history, of course I know what happened. Mr Sharpton is just out their to rally nothing else, I am not placing myself agaist his action because he is anti semetic, only because he wants to deliver a speech like MLK, who he is jeolous of.

If Im not mistaken, in the Gemara (Gitten)theres an idea that a messenger is considered only as a monkey because hes sent out to do a physical act and is incapable of any thought beyond that.Im sure this is not what the artist was refering to but I think it sums up Obama. If the blacks want to include themselves in this insult that shouldnt be anybody elses problem.

Clearly, for the next four years (hopefully not 8) the press will have to be very, very careful with any pictures or references they use in political cartoons. For the next four years, any apelike creature, or reference to apelike behavior, will be off limits.

So I guess that if it woulda been a hooked-nose bearded beagle - it would have also been copacetic.

I think I have heard that referrence of a messenger to a monkey before.

Daughters In The Parsha

First we are considered like we arent ready for a black president, and now we arent able to handle having a black president, why did anyone vote him in?

I hear yah.

Would it be any other way?

Those who question why the use of a monkey is offensive given the history of race in America are as ignorant as those who would question why a swastika is offensive to jews -- after all its just a design that long predates the Nazis.

Did you really write Barack the magic negro? Is this how many in your community feel? It is saddening.

sadly you think the magic negroe is going to kiss your boo-boo (economy) and it will become all better.

how do you feel about racism against jewish leaders?

I dont think its possible, they arent a race; rather, many distinct individuals.
