I really wish that Americas independence day came on Sunday this year and not shabbos, all the things I normally do on a 4Th of July could be done without having to break shabbos...... actually if I think about it there is nothing I do special on independence day. I don't invite my whole family and make a BBQ, I don't sing the national anthem or go to a Nathans hot dog contest, I really don't celebrate the biggest day in our nations history. I guess I have the frummie mentality of "we don't celebrate goyish holidays and yom ha'atzmut".

But im not lost yet there is one thing I did that I have always liked, the fireworks shows. I used to go near the toys R us spot, where most people do tashlich, less commonly known as Caesar's bay, but they stopped showing it there. Then I heard that the boardwalk at coney island had some, but they too stopped, the last place around is the Macy's fireworks show, and that's on the east river too far for me on a motzei shabbos.

If anybody does know a place where they celebrate our country by blowing a piece of it up, please tell me, or I wont be doing anything special for our country.

Here in Michigan, every small city does its own fireworks, all on different days during this season. So you can see fireworks every night for over a week. Last night we watched them down the block and over the trees just after kiddush levana.

You are funny. Find a friend who lives in an apartment building that's at least 5 stories high, go on the roof of that building around 9 PM, and celebrate away!

I also prefer the 4th of July to be on Sunday-Thursday, not Friday or Shabbat.

Ive felt like that the last few years.

Slim Mister Youngster et al

real fireworks that create dazzling sparkles or just the ones you can buy from china town.

I have no friends that live there right now, they all headed up state.

Meh, watching's not the same as doing. I used to live in Bensonhurst when it was still Italian. July 4th block party, now that's what I'm talking about.

I missed the fireworks this year too, though I did see some lame ones from the house where I was staying last week.

That Shabbos I actually went on a walk to Sheepshead Bay, near Manhattan beach, they had signs there that for 50 dollars you can go on a boat ride to the Hudson river to see the fireworks, it left at like 5:00 pm, which was still Shabbos.

Yesterday I went to Ceasers bay, went rollerblading there, and was surprised at how many Jewish people were there, tons of Chassidish people with their kids.

Here's a Picture I took with my cell. It was a gorgeous day.

O, and July 4th isn't a Goyish Holiday.
