THIS IS DIFFERENT

This ad is ludicrous, its advertising a pretend tatty kit with talis and tefillin. Who...... what..... why....... how come..... I'm at a loss of words here. Ill just explain what they're trying to do and you can comment (hint hint) on how you feel about this. Basically its selling you 40 bucks worth of fake talis and tefillin so your child can play pretend tatty, includes embroidered talis and tefillin bag and tefillin boxes. I think its a nice way to scam people of their money because Ive never seen any boy playing house, girls yes boys no, so why would they want to play pretend tatty, does it include pretend tatty hat and jacket? I surely don't like this idea but tell me otherwise if you think so.

Truthfully, Mike -
I've gotta disagree with you on this one.
My son who is now in his 20s used to LOVE to play "shul" as a kid. Of course, as yekkes, little boys have their own *real* tallis from a very young age, but I think the tefillin thing would've been right up his alley. (though I wonder if there are "appropriateness" issues w/ giving boys fake tefillin... but I'll leave that discussion to those more knowledgable than I)
Why is it different than play Torahs that kids enjoy so much?

I agree with G6.

My younger brother used to play Shul, with tallis, tefillin and a sefer torah. That way, he could mimic his older brothers.

My son likes to play Rabbi as well.

Seems like some early chinuch.

Little boys want to be just like tatty. Makes sense to me, yet I still find the idea of buying something like that funny.

G6/KandaBer

The question is would you buy them a 40 dollar pretend tatty kit?

Probably not - that's why the kid has an imagination.

I am not sure about the price but from time to time (cough cough) when I daven at home my 4 year old son likes to put on a fake talis and use one of his toys to pretend that it is teffilin and he likes to daven with me. I think this is a great idea (if only they lower the price a bit).

Sorry, I don't see the big deal. If you think it's too expensive, don't buy it. I don't see anything wrong with the idea.

Maybe if it includes a gartle and a streimel.

Kanda Ber

The vision of a kid going over to his play set and pretending to be tatty eludes me, not just paying foty bucks for one.

Honestly Frum

How old is your son?

Proud MO

I just think its a toy that parents will buy becaus they think its great and the children wont even use it because its really not. I think of it as a scam for your money.

Moshe

Hows about a hat and jacket to go with

now that makes me look stupid, you already wrote that in your first comment. So your son is four, okay I guess I was wrong kids would like to dress up as tatty.
